Go green this Easter with natural egg dye. You can create beautiful vibrant colors with a few simple household ingredients. Check out the recipes below!
What you’ll need:
A few small pots
White wine vinegar
Old dish towel
To make the dye:
Red: Simmer 6 yellow onion skins in 2 cups water for 15 minutes. Strain the dye and add 3 tsp of white vinegar. The longer you soak your eggs, the deeper the color will be.
Blue: Add 1/4 head of chopped red cabbage to 4 cups of boiling water. Stir in 2 tbsp of white vinegar. Let dye cool to room temperature and remove cabbage.
Yellow: Chop up 4 ounces of chopped carrots in 1.5 cups water for 15 minutes. Strain the dye and add 2 tsp of white vinegar.
Pink: Chop 1 medium beet into chunks and add it to 4 cups of boiling water. Add 2 tbsp of white vinegar and let the dye cool to room temperature. Remove beets. The longer you soak your eggs, the deeper the color will become.
To let your dyed eggs dry, place a cooling rack on an old dish towel. Place eggs on rack.
